Valentine's Day Chalkboard Tutorial

Love is in the air.

I love Valentine's Day. Call me cheesy, but I go a little weak in the knees with all the romantic little gestures that tend to come along with this time of the year.

I always want to decorate, but hate spending too much on a holiday that really isn't that important. That's where the chalkboard came into play!

I just knew when I bought this for Jay's birthday party this past summer that I would get my use out of it.

When I create a saying on the chalkboard, I like to start with the outer detail and fill in from there. A heart shaped like the vintage doily Valentine's.

Next, instead of using a line to keep the letters straight and trying to erase it cleanly (which lets face it never seems to work out for me) I instead use something else with a straight edge that will go all the way across. A yardstick is perfect.

So does a notebook when that's all you have on hand.

I love looking at different lettering on the internet to get new ideas for my fonts. Pinterest is awesome for this! Varying sizes and a few different fonts really give it a great hand lettered feeling.

So, try out different things, but don't be afraid to change things as you go! That's what I love about doing the lettering on a chalkboard, there's really a play with it as you design feeling that you don't always get with other mediums.

Do you decorate for Valentine's Day?

  1. Hey, so I've been reading you for a while. And according to your Bloglovin', you have less than 200 followers. So I nominated you for a Liebster Award. :)

    1. I do too! I feel like I would put them everywhere if it wouldn't be ridiculous.

    1. I need to get one of those. That's the one problem with regular chalk, you have to be very careful because you can't really set it if you wanna reuse the chalkboard.

    1. Yes, that's the best part about it! Nothing to store and not a lot of time to change things up.
