High Five for Friday!

Welcome back to another week of H54f! Make sure you check out my other lovely hosts while you're visiting as well, Della at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and Tif at Bright on a Budget.

Our featured blogger this week is Brittany over at Life as a Mrs. I'm excited to read more of her blog, and let me tell you that her son is absolutely adorable. I love her last post about his fave toys, Juliet has a lot of similar favorites! Be sure to stop by and give her some love.

This week has been nuts over here! Let's recap:

1. I'm starting a new job on Monday, which meant securing new childcare. That was a huge mess and probably one of the more stressful things I've done in a while. Luckily I was able to keep my hours somewhat low so we were able to work something out.

2. I FINALLY finished going through my bedroom closets. We have been seriously purging and are trying to get all our clothes into the 2 small closets in our bedroom. They were JAM packed.  Considering all of Jays stuff was previously in the laundry room in wardrobes, it's definitely been a feat. But I'm proud of what we've accomplished!

3. Juliet had her 18 month check up this week and finished up her baby shots! I'm not even sure how that's possible. She's also in the 60% percentile for weight!! We weren't even on the chart until about 8 months ago, so it's just so amazing to see her growing and developing so well.

4. I'm excited to have a fun weekend visiting my parents while my hubby goes fishing and works on more of the laundry room reno. There is a cloth diaper swap Saturday morning and then we are going to an Earth festival where Juliet can do all kinds of hands on projects. Now, to get myself packed...

5. I'm cutting back on caffeine again (it's my never ending struggle) and can I just say how surprised I am that more places don't serve decaf options of their drinks? Don't get me wrong, I love me some Starbucks and I can get anything decaf or half caff there, but it's just not always convenient. Other coffee shops and places need to get their acts together!

How has your week been? I'd love to hear!

When You're Missing Someone on Mother's Day

This was my second Mother's Day with my baby girl, third if you count when I was pregnant. And it struck me this year how different every single one has been for me.

3 years ago I was announcing my pregnancy and the end of my first trimester with my first, sweet baby girl. And last year was the first Mother's Day that I got to spend with my wonderful little girl in my arms.

And then we have this year. We had such a wonderful time on Saturday, going to Muffins with Mom at church and spending the day at the zoo. Jay and I even got to sneak away for a bite as just the two of us.

But it's always lightly nagging in the back of my mind that there's someone missing. Not only is this the first Mother's Day we celebrated without my Grandma, but we should have been sharing these moments with another little life. If my first baby had made it, I would be feeling the little flips and kicks that come at 20 weeks. I would have a belly and be in the best part of my pregnancy. If our last little one had made it, this would have been the time we had told our families and laughed about how this one and Juliet could potentially have the same birthdays.

Instead my life feels like it is on pause. Oh yes, I've got some wonderful things happening right now, like a new job and going back to school, but sometimes it just seems like it's marking time until that day when we have our next little baby. That's where my heart is, that's where my mind wanders. What could have been and what will hopefully be.

So I urge you, next time when you celebrate Mother's Day, don't forget the mothers who have lost, who are yearning for another baby (or a baby at all), that don't have the luxury to see their precious little ones.

High Five for Friday!

Yay for another Friday! And welcome to another High Five for Friday hosted by Katie at Cup of Tea, Tif at Bright on a Budget, Della at Della Devoted and I.

Our featured blogger this week is Candice from She's Leaning In. Last week was her first week linking up, so I'm super excited to get to learn more about her and read more of her blog. Head over and give her some love!

And now on to the H54F goodness:

1. I am so blessed to be starting a new job in just a little over a week. It's at a local hospital, so it's more along the lines of where my career will be going. Plus set hours will be much better for us.

2. Juliet turned 18 months yesterday! I can't even believe that's possible. Where did the last year go? I got all teary eyed last night watching videos of her at this time yesterday. She will always be my baby girl, but she's not a baby anymore.

3. Were slowly but surely getting the laundry room done! Here's the difference so far:

4. We've spent the majority of this week outside because it has been absolutely BEAUTIFUL here. I wouldn't complain if it always stayed in the 80s.

5. Ava Anderson Non Toxic came out with 10 new products recently, which I will be sharing a little but more about next week, but my fave hands down has to be the acne stick. It's like it kills the zit immediately! And I break out like crazy when I'm stressed, which I definitely have been lately.

How has your week been? I'd love to hear!

What to Expect in a Newborn Photo Shoot

Recently I had the privilege of shooting my friends adorable little man. I love getting to do photos of newborns! It makes me think so much about Juliet being that tiny, and squishy little babies are just the best.

I've noticed when I've done newborn photos before, people aren't really sure what to expect or what may really happen.

1. They need to be done within the first week.
As they get older (even past the first week!) they get more curious and more active, so if you want those sleepy newborn photos you always see, do it early.

2. Have a space heater to keep little one warm.
I try to carry one for baby photos when I can, but it's definitely a must! If you want any just in diapers or even less, the heater will help keep baby comfy.

3. Expect it to take longer than usual photoshoots.
Newborn photos are always my longer shoots because it never fails that they need to eat or a diaper change right in the middle. When mom and dad are expecting that, then everything goes a bit smoother.

4. You can have photo ideas, but be willing to go with the flow.
I don't mind when clients send me photos they've been thinking about, and sometimes we can duplicate them. However, when you get a little one that hates their belly like my daughter did, it's hard to get some of the cute poses when  baby is screaming to get off their belly. They also may be wide awake! This happens more than you'd expect with newborns.  Sleepy the whole time then it's a little party when the camera comes out.

And let the photographer do their thing! It's great to have an idea of what you want, but let the photographer have some creative freedom and you may get some amazing photos you'd never expect.

Did you have any surprises getting pictures of your little ones?

High Five for Friday!

Welcome to H54F hosted by Tif at Bright on a Budget, Katie at Cup of Tea, Della at Della Devoted and I. We're so excited to have you here today!

Hooray for my second week back! It's been a little bit more of a struggle than I thought to get the posts up that I have swimming around in my head, but I'm just going to chalk it up to the end of the month. Everything comes to a head and it gets crazy!

Anyways, on to the normal H54F goodness:

1. Last weekend I went home to visit with my parents and it was so good to be back in the house I grew up in. I've been working a lot of Saturdays, so it's been hard to get back to visit. They come here all the time, but it's just really not the same as getting to be there. Plus, it's one of the few places where Juliet sleeps amazingly!

2. Our tile didn't come in last weekend, sadly. But! We are for sure (FOR SURE!) getting it in this weekend. Jay is putting down the cement board as I type, so that means the tile WILL be done because there's only so long you can go without a washer. I'm excited to get to share with you all the before and after pics! (It'll still be a room in progress as you can see, just a warning :)

3. This weekend I am leaving Jay and Juliet to fend for themselves during the tile laying experience (yeah, panned out a little different than we had thought haha) and I will be helping with the state of Ohio's dental assisting testing. It's a fun weekend and an easy way to make some extra cash.

4. My parents got Juliet the cutest Elmo outfit. It's technically a little too big still but it'll work great as a dress right now. Plus, she's basically obsessed with Elmo and Daniel Tiger.

5. Katie sent us some Lilly for Target shorts for Juliet. She squealed when she saw them and put them on, refusing to take them off for the entire day. It was adorable! Now if it will just warm up so she can wear them again!

How has your week (and last few weeks) been? I'm excited to be catching back up with all of you!
